Where six of you should stay in Port Aransas

If there are four to eight of you, start with three homes: Mills Fishing Cabin in the middle of town, and two Executive Keys condos, Unit 404 and Unit 307. All three are two-bedroom places with two baths and a real kitchen. What separates them is not size. It's whether your group wants to walk to dinner or walk to the water, and whether anyone in the party struggles with stairs.
That's the short answer. Here's what the three are actually like, plus what to do if your group is three people, or if it's six people with a budget that stretches.
Town or water: the choice that decides your week
Port Aransas is small enough that nothing is far, but the difference between staying downtown and staying out at a beachfront condo complex shows up every single evening.
Mills Fishing Cabin sits in the heart of town, which means Alister Street and the Cotter Avenue waterfront are within easy reach. Tortuga's Saltwater Grill is on Alister. FINS Grill & Icehouse is down by the ferry landing near Roberts Point Park, with a big outdoor patio and the boat traffic going past. Shorty's Place on Beach Street stays open until two in the morning. If your group's idea of a good night is deciding at six where to eat and getting there without a designated driver, this is where you want to be based. The cabin is golf cart accessible, which is how most people get around the island anyway.
The Executive Keys condos put you on the other side of that trade. Both are waterfront with ocean views and a walk to the sand, with a heated community pool and rec room in the complex. You are not strolling to Shorty's from there. You are, however, going to the beach four times a day without thinking about it, which is the point of the trip for most families.
Mills Fishing Cabin, for a group that cooks and goes out
Newly built, 900 square feet, two bedrooms and two baths, sleeping six on a king, a queen and a double hide-a-bed. It has gathered 83 reviews and holds a 9.86 rating, which for a house this size is the most telling number in our whole Port Aransas list: small homes get judged harshly, and this one doesn't.
The back porch is where the stay happens. There's a charcoal BBQ pit, cornhole in the yard, and an outdoor shower for rinsing sand and fish smell off before anyone comes inside. Washer and dryer in the unit, a kettle and a Keurig, a dining table for four. Two notes before you book: the minimum age to rent is 25, and the cabin isn't pet-friendly. If your crew grows, the neighbouring Crooked Cabin can be booked alongside it.
Unit 404 and Unit 307: same floorplan, different ground
These two Executive Keys condos are close to identical on paper. Both are 2-bedroom, 2-bath, roughly 1,100 square feet, sleeping up to 8 with a queen in the primary and two doubles in the second bedroom. Both have a full kitchen, a heated community pool and rec room, beach access, and ocean views. Both carry a perfect 10 rating, from 7 reviews and 2 reviews respectively.
The difference is vertical.
- Unit 404 is on the second floor of Building #4, with a private balcony looking over the pool, the courtyard and the Gulf. Building #4 has no elevator, so every bag, cooler and sleeping child goes up a flight of stairs. There's a basketball court at the complex. The beach is about a five-minute walk. It allows pets.
- Unit 307 is on the ground floor, with a patio opening onto the pool and straight out to the grassy area, which is the single best feature for anyone travelling with small kids or a grandparent. No stairs, ever. It does not allow pets.
So: pets and a view from above, or no stairs and a lawn. That's genuinely the whole decision, and I'd take the ground floor every time with a mixed-age group.
Three people? Take the efficiency
Unit 113 sleeps three in 432 square feet: a queen bed, a convertible sofa, one bath with a tub-shower combo, and a full kitchen that is genuinely a kitchen rather than a kitchenette. It's on the ground floor of Building #1 at Executive Keys, with a private patio facing the courtyard and green space. Pool and rec room are a two-minute walk, the beach about five.
Couples travelling with a third, or three friends who intend to be out of the house from nine until dark, do well here. It's rated 9.3 across 9 reviews, and pets are allowed. Everyone else should take a two-bedroom and spend the difference on tarpon-watching and dinner.
When a small group should book a big house anyway
Sometimes six people want a house with a pool more than they want the right number of bedrooms, and that math isn't as silly as it sounds once you're splitting a larger place several ways.
No Plana Cabana is the one to look at: six bedrooms and six bathrooms across three storeys, sleeping up to 16, with a fenced private pool, an outdoor wet bar, a full-size shuffleboard table, and four balconies with partial Gulf views. Every bedroom has its own en-suite, which is why a group of six can rattle around in it happily and never queue for a shower. Parking takes up to nine vehicles, boat included, and the beach is a short walk. It's pet-friendly, with an outdoor shower on the way back in.
The honest counterpoint: you'll pay to heat and cool rooms nobody sleeps in, and a six-bedroom house with six people in it feels quiet. Book it if the pool and the shuffleboard are the holiday. Don't book it just for the bedroom count.
If the group is larger than you first thought, other options in the same vein include No Agenda Hacienda, with a private pool and a boardwalk to the sand, and Big Blue, where all four bedrooms have en-suite baths.

What to do once you've picked
Mornings: Coffee Waves for coffee and pastries, or Irie's for the baked goods and the cruffins. If there's a fisherman in the group, Horace Caldwell Pier runs 1,200 feet out beside I.B. Magee Beach Park, which is 167 acres at the northern tip of Mustang Island by the South Jetty and open all year. The Port Aransas Nature Preserve has four sites, all with wheelchair-accessible boardwalks: the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center has a ramped overlook, and Wetland Park runs a boardwalk out to a gazebo over the tidal flats. Roberts Point Park has a playground, volleyball, shuffleboard and horseshoes, and it's right where the ferry comes in.
For a day with no cars and no facilities at all, the jetty boat runs over to San Jose Island, a privately owned barrier island with public access. Bring everything you need, including water.
The ferry across the ship channel to Aransas Pass is a quarter-mile crossing that takes well under ten minutes. The queue is the variable, not the boat, and in summer it can be long. Corpus Christi is about forty minutes' drive, and the airport there runs roughly the same.
Any of these homes can be booked directly with us. If you're torn between the second floor at Building #4 and the ground floor at 307, or you're trying to work out whether six of you really want a six-bedroom house, call or message and ask. We know these houses, and we'd rather talk you into the right one than take the booking on the wrong one.
